Book Review - Success is Around the Corner Written by H. E. Boney M. Katatumba
Above all, this book is dedicated to the people I think need it most- the youths of the world. For in them lies the key to our future. Hopefully, they can adopt the philosophy I share in this book to create an even better world for all.
I have been fortunate to have travelled to over a hundred different countries as Chairman G77 CCI. It is my conclusion that the youths are basically the same the world over. Their aspirations are often ignored as they struggle to find a niche in this sometimes cold and difficult world. Against the social, educational and political imbalances of societies in which they find themselves, they battle on, ever determined to make their voices heard.

Boney M. Katatumba's book - Success is Around the Corner.
Why read this book?
Exciting, motivating, revealing, fiery, uplifting, and educational are just some words to describe a book that I will cherish forever. "Success Is Around The Corner" is the book that everyone should read if they have any hint of entrepreneurship in their heart. Reading this book awakened those wonderful feelings of business savvy and risk taking, which are so familiar to people, but often get put on hold, resulting in dreams deferred. The most important message I found in the book was Mr. Katatumba's words "Try and Fail, But Never Fail to Try". These words resonate so well in the minds of people who understand that man is guaranteed nothing in life but two things, and that is birth and death. Everything else in between those two milestones must be earned and are subject to trial and error. This book is a must read for anyone, but certainly for the forward-thinking and progressive.

In January 2008, I had the privilege to travel to Uganda and meet Mr. Katatumba and a few of the family members. I was... and to this day I am... so grateful to have spent time with the family and be in the company of such an inspiring and dynamic individuals.
From green banana juice to multi-millionaire real estate mogul
His Excellency, Mr. Boney Mwebesa Katatumba (hereafter referred to as "Boney M") was born to successful parents of the Banyankole people in the Ankole region of Uganda. Boney M became interested in business and doing well in life from an early age. Selling green banana juice to travelers along roadsides was one of his childhood businesses. The fiery passion to become a successful businessman followed Boney M from childhood to adulthood. While matriculating at Makerere University, Boney M was not ashamed to start a car washing business, something many of his classmates considered beneath him. Boney M noticed that many students had cars badly in need of a wash as they became covered in mud by Uganda's thick red clay soil. He quickly filled a need by washing cars for students and employed others to work for him. Many mistakes in business were made, but he quickly bounced back and tried different strategies and took new risks. Eventually, Boney M would go into business with his brother who was studying architecture at the time. He soon capitalized on the real estate market in Uganda, which propelled him along the path of eventually becoming a multimillionaire.
The British rule influence on the traditional African family
Boney M educates on a very personal level. For instance, the subject of polygamy and religion is discussed in the book, as he discloses that he has two wives. His nine children were born between two wives and he does not think of his family unit as anything out of the ordinary. Boney M and his siblings grew up in a polygamous household and he explains the culture of the polygamous family unit as it relates to traditional African families. He is very candid about how, under British rule, Catholic priests destroyed his family unit.
The days of Idi Amin
This book is not only about a successful Ugandan businessman. Boney M tells many stories that should be recorded in other history books. For instance, in the late 1970s, during the days of Idi Amin's rule of Uganda, Boney M had an awkward moment with the leader himself. One day Idi Amin's guards suddenly interrupted a swim that Boney M was taking among tourists in the Kampala International Hotel. Everyone was told to exit the swimming pool immediately. Soon after, a thunderous splash got the attention of everyone, as Idi Amin plummeted into the deep end. Boney M and the others had to stand at attention and applaud for Uganda's nightmarish leader. Idi Amin made life harsh for people, systematically killing off educated and well-to-do Ugandans, as Boney M explains. Boney M actually had to go into exile to nearby Kenya as he feared for his life-temporarily leaving his family behind. Boney M had to leave because he was the ideal candidate to be placed on Amin's hit-list.

From Ugandan diplomat to businessman, Boney M keeps the reader's mind fixed on paving those roads to success. As a Ugandan diplomat, Boney M has traveled to over 100 countries. He has served and represented his country well. Keeping a positive attitude in life and never giving up on his dreams has rewarded Boney M to collaborate with world leaders such as Kofi Annan (Secretary General of United Nations), the Late Yasser Arafat (Former leader of Palestine), Pervez Musharraf (President of Pakistan) and Maummar Qadafi (Libyan Leader). Boney M also will be recorded in history books as becoming the first Christian ever to be appointed Honorary Consul to Uganda by the Islamic Republic of Pakistan-his most recent post.
